The Rhode Island beaches on Block Island are easy to find: just turn right when you get off the ferry and walk toward Crescent Beach, the 2.5-mile stretch of sand that’s visible as you approach the island.

Or, turn left and walk a few hundred yards to Ballard's Beach, which is behind Ballard's Restaurant.

Either way, you can be on the beach in minutes, enjoying the ocean breezes.

If you bring your bike, or if you rent a bike or moped on the island, make the short ride to Mohegan Bluffs. You’ll be glad you did.

Ballard’s Beach:

Small beach behind Ballard’s restaurant, just steps from the ferry dock. This hot spot has live music and volleyball, as well as umbrellas, beach chairs and cabanas for rent.

It's probably the only one of the Rhode Island beaches where you can get food and drinks delivered right to your beach chair!

Ballards Beach Block Island



"Kid Beach":

Stretch of sand at the southern end of Crescent Beach, close to Old Harbor. The water is shallow and calm with some rocks and seaweed, but little kids love splashing, snorkeling and collecting hermit crabs.

Some people reach this beach by climbing over the rocks near the breakwater, but you can also access it by using the sand path just past The Blue Dory Inn on Dodge Street.

Fred Benson Town Beach:

One of only two Block Island beaches with lifeguards (Ballard’s is the other one). Amenities include showers, changing rooms, food and beach equipment rentals. Easy to get to along Corn Neck Road, or by walking along Crescent Beach from town.

Scotch Beach:

This beach is 1/4 of a mile north of Fred Benson Town Beach, just off Corn Neck Road. There is a small parking area for about 25 cars. The beach is popular with summer workers and tourists.

Mansion Beach:

To reach this beach, drive down the long, bumpy Mansion Road, off Corn Neck. The parking lot has space for about 60 cars, but it fills up early. The beach is popular for its big waves.

Mansion Beach Block Island



Mohegan Bluffs:

The view from the top of the bluffs is stunning, but you’ll have to walk down more than 140 stairs and carefully climb over rocks to reach the sand. It’s worth it to get to this unspoiled, uncrowded beach.

(Just be careful if you go swimming. The waves can be pretty rough and there are no lifeguards.)
